Ahmad Luthfi Launches Jasirah Race: Ambassador of Central Java’s Potential Exploration

Gubernur Jawa Tengah, Ahmad Luthfi, officially launched the Jasirah Race 2025 at Lawang Sewu in Semarang on Friday, July 25, 2025. He described the participants as ambassadors tasked with exploring and promoting the rich potential of the region. “You will represent Central Java in showcasing our tourist attractions and infrastructure. Our goal is for Central Java to gain recognition not just locally, but also internationally, as a hidden gem in tourism and economics,” Luthfi stated in a press release.

The participants will serve as representatives for Central Java’s historical sites, culinary delights, and small and medium enterprises (UMKM). They will embark on a journey, tackling challenges across five cities: Semarang, Tegal, Purwokerto, Solo, and Yogyakarta.

Luthfi emphasized that, while there are prizes to be won, the true essence of the Jasirah Race lies in the experience of each destination. The locations featured in the race are rich in history, culinary offerings, and unique small businesses that each have their own story to tell. He added that the explorations undertaken will contribute to the provincial government’s efforts in establishing regional agglomeration and fostering new tourism and economic opportunities, including investments and connectivity in Central Java.

Participants will indirectly encourage economic growth by promoting tourist sites, heritage locations, and accommodations. They will utilize various transportation modes, including trains operated by KAI, rides with Gojek in the cities, and promotional offers from Garuda Indonesia for flights.

Rahmat Dwisapurto, Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Central Java, introduced the theme of the race: ‘Tanah Jawa Berkalung Besi,’ inspired by Jayabaya’s prophecy of Java being ‘adorned with iron.’ He highlighted that Java stands as the only island in Indonesia with a circular railway network.

“ This theme symbolizes strength, connectivity, and the transformation of Java’s landscape, showcased through expansive infrastructure like toll roads, high-speed rail, and rural roads,” he explained.

The Jasirah Race isn’t just a competition; it aims to elevate sport tourism by delving into historical sites and other attractions, including the legacies of Hindu Mataram, Islamic Mataram, and colonial eras, while also highlighting local cuisine and UMKM. Participants will travel by train to each city.

Teams, containing members with at least 2,000 followers on social media, will complete various tasks set by the organizers. Rahmat hopes this annual event will motivate tourism players to utilize the train system for exploring Central Java, ultimately leading to longer stays in Semarang and other cities.

Participants are also encouraged to educate and promote national pride, understanding of currency, QRIS usage, and to create videos showcasing UMKM and tourist destinations.
