“We are proud to maintain the consistency of the international cycling event Tour de Ijen as we enter our 10th year,” said Banyuwangi’s Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, in a written statement on July 22, 2025. “The Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen is part of our efforts to advance cycling as a sport in Indonesia.”
Ipuk highlighted that sport tourism will continue to be a major initiative aimed at drawing visitors to Banyuwangi, showcasing it as one of Indonesia’s premier cycling destinations. “The Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen is not just a sporting event; it has become a symbol that puts Banyuwangi on the international map. Since the inception of the Tour de Ijen, we’ve seen a steady increase in international tourists visiting our beautiful region,” he added.
Since its first edition in 2012, enthusiasm for the TdBI has soared, with many teams eager to participate in this extreme mountain competition. This year, 44 teams expressed their intention to join, but only 20 were selected based on their UCI rankings.
According to M Alfin Kurniawan, the Acting Head of the Banyuwangi Youth and Sports Agency, of the 20 participating teams, 14 are international. Notably, new countries joining the TdBI this year include clubs from Estonia, Italy, and Saudi Arabia. One of those teams is the Swatt Club from Italy, a highly regarded European club known for its talented young cyclists. With thousands of members, Swatt Club has made its mark in various international competitions across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
Six teams from Indonesia will also compete: Jakarta Pro Cycling, Nusantara-BYC, ASC Monsters Indonesia, Banyuwangi Road Cycling Club (BRCC), Anonymous Cycling Team, and Pontianak Wuaya Racing. Each team comprises five riders, along with 2-3 officials, bringing the total to around 128 cyclists from 24 countries to spice up this year’s Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen.
The TdBI course will stretch across a total of 593 kilometers over four stages: Stage one will take the riders from Pasar Pesanggaran to the Banyuwangi Regent’s Office (125.5 km), stage two will traverse from Alas Purwo to the same office (158.8 km), stage three will start at RTH Glenmore and finish at the Regent’s Office (140.3 km), and finally, stage four will begin at RTH Maron Genteng and conclude at Paltuding Ijen (150 km).
