Wakil Gubernur Bali, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, has addressed the recent demolition of illegal structures along Bingin Beach in South Kuta, Badung. He admitted that, during his tenure as the Regent of Badung, he was unaware of the presence of these unauthorized constructions. “There are many development projects we aren’t aware of,” Giri Prasta stated after attending a plenary session at the Bali Governor’s office on July 21, 2025.
Giri noted that the prevalence of illegal buildings in Badung is quite alarming, with numerous new constructions popping up within just a few months. “If such structures existed while I was regent, there would have certainly been warnings issued,” he added, referring to his term from 2015 to 2025.
He emphasized the necessity of demolishing these properties after multiple warnings have been ignored. “Effective communication between community leaders and the government is crucial. It allows us to find solutions to issues that arise in the area,” he asserted, representing the PDI Perjuangan party.
On the morning of the demolition, dozens of illegal structures at Bingin Beach were taken down by the Badung Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) in conjunction with a legal enforcement team. According to the Bali DPRD, there are approximately 45 illegal tourism accommodation buildings along Bingin Beach in Pecatu, Badung, which include restaurants, hotels, and villas. This information was revealed following a recent surprise inspection.
“These buildings, which have been erected on the beach, strongly indicate a significant accumulation of violations against both national and local regulations set forth by the Province of Bali,” remarked Made Suparta, a member of Commission I of the Bali Provincial DPRD.
