Filipina Introduces Halal Tours for Indonesian Travelers

In the vibrant setting of Hotel Park Hyatt, Jakarta, the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) hosted the ‘Sales Mission 2025’ event on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Zeny Cinco Pallugna, the Director of the Office of Market Development at DOT, emphasized the importance of Indonesia as a dynamic market within Southeast Asia. With a significant Muslim population, the Philippines aims to boost its tourism sector, especially now that it has earned recognition as an attractive destination for Muslim travelers.

“Muslim tourists are vital for the growth of our tourism sector in the Philippines,” Zeny stated during the event. Isabelle Ann Biscocho, Executive Assistant IV for Halal Tourism and Muslim Concerns at DOT, added that Muslim travelers often have two primary queries when visiting a country, including Indonesia: the availability of prayer spaces and halal food. Bella assured the audience that the Philippines is well-prepared to meet these needs.

“I am pleased to share that the Philippines has been acknowledged for its progress as a Muslim-friendly destination, as recognized by CrescentRating. We have climbed four spots in the Global Muslim Travel Index, now ranked eighth among non-OIC countries,” Bella said. “This advancement motivates us to actively promote the Philippines as a Muslim-friendly destination to our fellow Muslims.”

Bella also mentioned ongoing efforts across various hotels in the Philippines to check for Muslim-friendly facilities, such as prayer directions in rooms and the availability of copies of the Quran. The country is also preparing dedicated kitchens to ensure halal food options are readily available.

To facilitate worship, Bella highlighted that there are approximately 3,000 mosques spread throughout the country, with many located in city areas and on islands, including new establishments in Mindanao, making it easier for Muslims to practice their faith.

The Philippines is also home to an exclusive beach area designated for Muslim tourists. For those wanting to enjoy the beach while maintaining privacy, Marhaba Boracay offers a dedicated space that spans around 800 square meters, reserved solely for women and Muslim families, ensuring a distinct environment away from non-Muslim visitors.

As a footnote, ‘Sales Mission 2025’ is not limited to Jakarta; it will also take place in Surabaya on Wednesday, July 16. The event features ten travel companies engaging with approximately 85 travel agents from Indonesia.
