Five Street Extortionists Arrested in West Jakarta, Armed with Cutters and Scissors

Polsek Cengkareng successfully apprehended five extortionists in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta. Their actions had created a significant disturbance for road users. The head of Polsek Cengkareng, Kompol Abdul Jana, revealed that among those arrested, one was found possessing a sharp weapon. The primary suspect, identified as RH, is believed to be the mastermind behind the extortion ring.

“We confiscated evidence, including a cutter knife, a small pair of scissors, and a total of Rp 21,000 in cash,” Abdul Jana stated on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

The suspects had reportedly targeted travel drivers at the Metro Kapuk Raya base in Cengkareng. Their illicit activities were captured on video, quickly going viral on social media, showcasing a man demanding Rp 20,000 from a driver. A special criminal investigation team, led by AKP Parman Gultom, acted swiftly, leading to the capture of all five individuals. They were transported to Polsek Cengkareng for further investigation.

In addition to facing charges for extortion, the primary suspect is also being prosecuted under Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951. Kompol Abdul Jana urged the community to promptly report any instances of thuggery in the Cengkareng area. He encouraged victims to file police reports at Polsek Cengkareng.

“We will take firm action against all forms of public disturbance. Community reports are crucial for our enforcement efforts,” he emphasized.
