Heads Up: Ampera Bridge Closed for One Hour During Ampera Tourism Run Start

The iconic Ampera Bridge will be temporarily closed for one hour during the Ampera Tourism Run (ATR), an event commemorating the 1,342nd anniversary of Palembang City. The run is scheduled for Sunday, June 15, 2025, with the first flag-off set for 5:45 AM WIB. Runners will embark at Ampera Bridge and race towards the finish line at Plaza Benteng Kuto Besak.

Police Traffic Chief AKBP Finan Sukma Radipta confirmed that access to the bridge will be shut from 4:45 AM to 5:45 AM WIB for preparations. “The closure is planned between 4:45 and 5:45 AM to ensure a smooth start. Traffic normalization will depend on real-time conditions,” he explained on Saturday, June 14.

According to official ATR sources, participants can choose between two race routes: 5 KM and 10 KM. The shorter route starts at Ampera Bridge, loops around the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I Joyo Wikromo Grand Mosque, proceeds down Jalan Sudirman, then turns back at the Charitas Hospital intersection before heading to the finish via Jalan Sekanak beside the Palembang Mayor’s Office.

The longer 10 KM route returns across Ampera Bridge towards Jalan Gubernur H Bastari in Seberang Ulu, circles in front of Golden Sriwijaya, and then follows Jalan Sekanak to the finish line.

Though the bridge will close before the flag-off, Finan assured that traffic on main arteries will gradually reopen starting at 6:00 AM. “These roads won’t be completely cleared of vehicles as they serve as major routes, but priority will be given to the runners,” he added.

For participant convenience, ample parking is available across both Seberang Ilir and Seberang Ulu, including stretches along Jalan Kolonel Atmo, Jalan TP Rustam Effendi, Jalan Kebumen Darat, Jalan Masjid Lama, Jalan Tengkuruk Permai under Ampera Bridge, Jalan Merdeka near the Grand Mosque to the Women’s Correctional Facility, Jalan Sudirman towards Pasar Cinde, Taman Nusa Indah behind Monpera, parking lots next to the Mayor’s Office, Palembang Art Building, Mie Gacoan and McDonald’s parking areas, underneath Ampera Bridge in 7 Ulu, Universitas Kader Bangsa (UKB), and Universitas Bina Sriwijaya.

Additionally, Kompol Musa Jedi Permana, Head of Operations at Palembang Police, revealed that 120 officers will be deployed to secure the event. “We urge participants to look after themselves, their belongings, and vehicles throughout the run,” he reminded.
