Car Rental Business Booms in Medan Amid School Holidays
The car rental industry in Medan is experiencing a surge in demand during the current school holiday season. Rental owners are even reporting that they have run out of available vehicles. “Right now, we’re completely booked. Alhamdulillah, there’s been a noticeable increase in bookings during the school break,” shared Amin, manager of Elzir Trans and Tour, in an interview on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Amin explained that most renters are booking cars for both local trips within the province and long-distance travel to neighboring regions.
Popular Destinations and Vehicle Options
“Many customers are renting cars to visit places like Berastagi, Lake Toba, Samosir, and even as far as Aceh,” Amin revealed.
The fleet includes various models with a wide price range. Economy cars such as the Brio, Agya, and Calya start at Rp 350,000 per day, while premium vehicles like the Alphard command up to Rp 2.2 million daily. Most rentals tend to last three days or more, according to Amin.
Local Family Enjoys Affordable Holiday Rental
Residents of Medan are taking advantage of rental cars to explore destinations within North Sumatra. One such renter, Dinda, shared her plan, “We rented a car from Thursday to Saturday to tour around Lake Toba and Samosir with the kids for the holidays. The rate is Rp 400,000 per day for a car that fits five people. Flying out of town is expensive these days, so it makes more sense to travel locally.”
