Tragedy struck with the sinking of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, leaving profound sorrow in the hearts of the victims’ families. As of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, a total of 30 passengers have been rescued, while 10 bodies have been recovered and identified by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team from East Java Police.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, two more bodies were identified by this dedicated DVI team. According to Kombes Rama Samtama Putra, Chief of Police in Banyuwangi, the two recovered bodies are confirmed as passengers of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, designated with body bags numbered 009 and 0010.
“Two bodies discovered by the joint team early this morning include one found near Sembulungan and another in the same water area later in the morning. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the DVI team, we have successfully identified both as passengers of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya,” said Rama on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

The deceased is Muhammad Aris Setiawan, a 23-year-old man from Babatan, Blitar, East Java. “The body in bag number 009 consists of one individual and was identified based on medical fingerprints and personal belongings,” explained Adam.
