Wayan Koster, the Chairman of the Bali Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), has set an ambitious target for the party in Buleleng. He has urged Nyoman Sutjidra, the Chairman of the Election Winning Body (Bappilu) of PDIP Buleleng, and Gede Supriatna, the Chairman of the Buleleng Branch Leadership Council (DPC) of PDIP, to secure at least 25 out of 45 seats in the Buleleng Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) during the 2029 Legislative Elections. “Currently, Buleleng holds only 18 seats out of 45, which is insufficient! Sutjidra and Dek Supit must aim for a minimum of 25 seats,” Koster stated while inaugurating a mixology competition featuring Bali arak at the Bung Karno Green Open Space in Singaraja, Buleleng, on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Sutjidra and Supriatna, both PDIP cadres currently serving as the Regent and Vice Regent of Buleleng, face a stern warning from Koster. If they fail to achieve the target of 25 DPRD seats, he threatened to impose strict sanctions, including withholding recommendations for their candidacy in the 2029 Regent Election.
“If we don’t reach 25 seats in the Buleleng DPRD, then one term as regent and vice regent will be enough. Let’s keep it real; there’s no need for excessive talk—just demonstrate your achievements,” emphasized Koster, who also serves as the Governor of Bali.
Prior to this, Koster praised I Komang Gede Sanjaya, the Chairman of the PDIP Tabanan Branch, who has successfully increased the number of DPRD seats in Tabanan. “Previously, Tabanan’s seats dropped from 32 to 27, then to 22. He approached me, expressing his desire to lead the DPC to improve our seat count. He requested to be dismissed if he couldn’t deliver. I believed in him, and he proved me right, increasing the seats from 22 to 28, and then to 31. Let’s give a round of applause for Komang Sanjaya,” Koster remarked.
“This is what we expect from our cadres—serious work as both regent and party members. While Buleleng has yet to achieve this, Gianyar is doing well, Bangli is okay, Karangasem is facing challenges, Klungkung is starting to improve, Jembrana is progressing, and Denpasar needs to be more proactive for the upcoming elections,” Koster added.
In response, Supriatna expressed his commitment to working diligently to meet Koster’s ambitious target. He acknowledged the challenge posed by the high expectations. “We must strive to achieve this target, even though it is demanding. It is a challenge, especially given the more democratic political landscape in Buleleng. With hard work in the community and effective governance programs, we hope to gain the public’s support in the elections,” Supriatna explained.
