KPK Probes Hajj Quota Corruption, Summons Ustaz Khalid Basalamah for Statement

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned Ustaz Khalid Basalamah for questioning in connection with an alleged corruption case involving the pilgrimage quota.

“Yes, Ustaz Khalid has been called in and questioned regarding the pilgrimage matter,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters, as reported on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The summons took place yesterday, and Budi confirmed that Ustaz Khalid attended cooperatively, providing valuable information to investigators working on the case.

Investigators focused their questions on his knowledge surrounding the management of the Hajj pilgrimage services.

“The inquiry mainly concerned his understanding of how the pilgrimage operations are managed,” Budi explained.

Ustaz Khalid is known to own a travel agency specializing in Hajj and Umrah called Uhud Tour. According to its official website, the agency is based in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, offering a range of services including Hajj packages, Umrah, private Umrah, and substitute pilgrimage services.

Besides Ustaz Khalid, the commission has not ruled out calling other individuals connected to the investigation. This could include Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, the current Minister of Religious Affairs.

“We are open to summoning anyone who has relevant information related to the structure of this case to provide their testimony,” Budi added.
