Lampung Partners with Chinese Firm to Boost Corn Production

The provincial government of Lampung continues to expand its international partnerships, now welcoming Qingdao Dagu Grain Co., Ltd. from China to boost investment climate and enhance agricultural productivity.

“I, on behalf of the Lampung Provincial Government, warmly welcome and thank you for your earnest visit to Lampung. We are confident that this collaboration will elevate our agriculture sector,” stated Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal during his remarks on Tuesday (5/8/2025).

Governor Mirza personally received the Qingdao Dagu Grain Co., Ltd. team in his office on Monday (4/7). He expressed appreciation for their serious interest in exploring cooperation opportunities with Lampung.

During the meeting, Yang Wenzheng, Chairman of Qingdao Dagu Grain Co., Ltd., shared that his team has already engaged in discussions and conducted a field visit to maize farms in South Lampung.

“After inspecting the maize fields, I am confident we can increase the yield to up to 2 tons per hectare,” Wenzheng stated. Based on their survey, leveraging high-quality seeds, premium fertilizers, and modern automatic equipment could boost corn production by 30 to 40 percent.

Wenzheng also emphasized the need for support from the provincial government to help realize these productivity enhancements.

Governor Mirza responded positively, committed to providing the necessary backing to elevate maize yield in Lampung. With this collaboration, he envisions Lampung, currently the third-largest maize producer nationally, becoming the top producer in Indonesia.

He highlighted Lampung’s strategic location and robust economic growth—among the highest in Sumatra—as a compelling investment destination for Qingdao Dagu Grain Co., Ltd., making the province an ideal site for expansion.

“I hope we can increase productivity and grow together through this partnership,” the governor concluded.

Attending the meeting were representatives from Qingdao Dagu Grain, including Chairman Yang Wenzheng, Wang Ming—Associate Professor at Qingdao Agricultural University—and Li Zheng, Secretary-General of the World Tourism and Culture Chamber of Commerce of Hospitality Shandong, along with Sheng Zhiqiang, General Manager of Qingdao Dagu Grain.
