Malaysia Crew Suspected as Victim in Tunu Pratama Jaya Sinkage

A Malaysian citizen is reportedly among the victims of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ferry disaster, which occurred during its crossing from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, to Gilimanuk, Bali. The individual, identified as Fauzi bin Awang, 50, is the husband of Yatini, a 60-year-old resident of Banyuwangi.

According to Arnita, a close relative of Yatini, Fauzi regularly travels between Malaysia and Indonesia every three months. He was originally scheduled to fly back to Malaysia today.

“Since marrying Mrs. Yatini, he has frequently commuted between Malaysia and Banyuwangi every three months. He was supposed to catch a flight to Malaysia at noon today, but the night before, he left for Bali by travel service around 8 PM,” Arnita shared on July 3, 2025.

Arnita further revealed that Fauzi’s name was not listed on the passenger manifest. However, his vehicle with license plate DK-7994-AC, which Fauzi was traveling in, was confirmed to be on board the ferry.

“Though he was not on the passenger list, the travel vehicle’s registration number DK-7994-AC was recorded as part of the ferry’s cargo, and that’s the vehicle Mr. Fauzi took,” Arnita explained.

“His wife is unaware of which ferry Fauzi boarded, and to this day, all attempts to reach him by phone have failed,” she added.

Yatini and Arnita continue to await news about Fauzi’s fate, struggling with the lack of information, as his name has not appeared on any casualty lists and no contact details have been confirmed—not even from the travel driver.
