Australia has emerged as a top holiday destination for Indonesian travelers. Interestingly, it’s not the residents of Jakarta who contribute the most to the influx of tourists to the Land Down Under. Dwidayatour, a well-established travel agency and a proud partner of Tourism Australia, has been serving travelers since July 19, 1967, with 55 branches across 27 cities in Indonesia. According to their records, Australia ranks as the fifth most popular vacation spot among Indonesians. Surprisingly, the majority of tourists hail from Surabaya. “Many people from Surabaya study there,” explains Hendri Yapto, COO of Dwidayatour.
One intriguing statistic from this long-standing travel agency reveals that the first-time visitors to Australia predominantly come from Pontianak, West Kalimantan. “They seem to be more enthusiastic about it as first-timers,” he adds. The Dwidayatour branch in Pontianak serves as a reliable oasis in the travel landscape, offering a variety of tour packages that cater to those venturing abroad for the first time, ensuring a comfortable experience.
“When travelers step into our office, they already have a wealth of destinations to choose from,” he notes. The most popular travel package among Indonesians typically spans seven days, featuring three key cities: Melbourne, Sydney, and Gold Coast. “The peak travel season to Australia coincides with school holidays, particularly during winter. December is summer there,” he clarifies. He further mentions that Indonesian tourists generally prefer cooler climates, as the country experiences only two seasons: dry and rainy. “During winter, the prime destinations are New South Wales and Victoria, specifically the cities of Sydney and Melbourne,” he concludes.
