Reduce Plastic Waste: PICA Fest Encourages Visitors to Bring Their Own Tumblers

The Paradise Island Clothing Association (PICA) Fest is making its vibrant return after a year off, set to take place over four exciting days from July 24-27, 2025, at the Niti Mandala Renon Field in Denpasar, Bali. This year, attendees can look forward to the introduction of the PICA Waste Department, dedicated to managing waste throughout the festival. The organizers are also committed to reducing the circulation of plastic beverage bottles under one liter during the event.

According to I Gede Andika Paramartha, also known as Go Andik, the festival chairman, the goal is for the festival to independently manage its waste. This effort aligns with the Governor of Bali’s Circular No. 9 of 2025, promoting the Bali Clean Waste Movement. “My team and I are focused on ensuring that the waste generated at PICA is handled locally, rather than being sent to landfills,” Go Andik shared at a press conference in Denpasar on July 17, 2025.

The organizing committee has also coordinated with sponsors, particularly beverage companies, to refrain from distributing plastic bottled drinks under one liter during the festival, especially given the anticipated high enthusiasm from attendees. In addition to music concerts, visitors to PICA Fest 2025 can explore local clothing stalls and a variety of culinary options that may produce waste.

“We’ve teamed up with five waste management communities, covering organic, inorganic, and residual waste,” Go Andik added. The involved communities include Bersih-Bersih Bali, PPLH Bali, and Yayasan Tegeh Sari, which focus on organic waste management, along with Pesona Plastik and Daur Ulang, dealing with inorganic waste, and ACS Bali, responsible for managing inorganic and residual waste.

“The bottom line is, I don’t want this festival to be dirty. I want to keep waste production to a minimum. I urge everyone to manage their own waste,” he emphasized. Additionally, the committee plans to impose penalties on vendors who violate these waste management rules, ranging from warning letters to potential disqualification from future events.

Attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, as the organizers will set up water stations throughout the festival grounds. Go Andik hopes this initiative serves as an educational platform for responsible waste management. “I also hope that with the success of PICA, it will inspire other event promoters or students organizing events to adopt similar practices,” he noted.

PICA Fest 2025 promises to feature over 100 local and national performers, with confirmed artists including Hindia, Feast, Tipe X, Supermen is Dead (SID), and Kangen Band, making it an unmissable experience for music lovers and eco-conscious attendees alike.
