A travel scam has emerged in the Matraman area of East Jakarta, where victims found themselves unable to embark on their planned vacation to Bali after their funds were deceitfully taken by the perpetrators. A viral social media post from Thursday, July 17, 2025, recounts that hundreds have fallen victim to this scheme. The scammers promised a five-day getaway to Bali at an enticingly low price. Victims were asked to pay between Rp 1.7 to 2 million, yet none were ever taken on the trip. It appears that the culprits are a married couple.
AKP Moch Zen, the head of the Matraman Police Criminal Investigation Unit, stated that victims are preparing to file a report. Currently, representatives from the affected individuals are gathering information to assess the total number of victims. “The victims will file a police report. We are actively conducting our investigation,” Zen confirmed. He also mentioned that his team has visited the alleged fraudulent travel agency and that the police investigation is ongoing. “We are examining the crime scene,” he added.
