Gubernur Sumut Bobby Nasution recently conducted an impromptu inspection at the PDAM Tirtanadi branch in Samosir. This visit was prompted by local reports from residents struggling to access clean water, even with the expansive Lake Toba surrounding them.
“Upon receiving these reports, I immediately visited the PDAM Tirtanadi branch in Samosir to assess the water management situation firsthand. The findings revealed that the filtration system is severely inadequate and in urgent need of improvement,” Bobby shared on his Instagram account, @bobbynst, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
In a video posted online, Bobby inspected the water, which appeared discolored. He raised concerns about its potability. “Is water in this state considered suitable?” he asked, to which a PDAM employee responded, “Yes, it’s still acceptable, sir.”
Bobby identified numerous challenges regarding clean water access in Samosir, including ineffective purification processes and malfunctioning water pumps. “I discovered that the water quality is subpar, and the treatment system relies on outdated methods, with only a single filtration process in place, and one pump unit currently out of order,” he explained.
In response, he stated that steps would be taken to repair the damaged pump to ensure that residents of Samosir receive clean water. “We will push for comprehensive improvements, from filtration and distribution to management, so that the community has access to safe and suitable water. The Provincial Government of Sumut is committed to fixing the malfunctioning pump and optimizing the filtration system,” he concluded.
