In Karangasem, Bali, a 29-year-old pig seller, known as Ni Nengah S, has been imprisoned after being named a suspect in a case involving the embezzlement of nine vehicles. She is currently detained at the Polsek Kubu station. According to AKP I Nyoman Sukarma, the head of Kubu Police, the case came to light following a report filed by a victim named Ni Nengah Wisni on Monday, July 21, 2025. Wisni’s vehicle, which had been borrowed by the suspect, was allegedly pawned to another party without her knowledge.
“We identified the suspect on Saturday, July 26, 2025, and she has since been held at Polsek Kubu,” Sukarma stated on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polsek Kubu promptly initiated an investigation. The suspect was ultimately apprehended at an inn in the Mengwi region of Badung. During questioning, she confessed to embezzling nine vehicles from different victims in Kubu District. Fortunately, all the vehicles were recovered in Karangasem and Singaraja.
The suspect’s modus operandi involved borrowing cars from her victims and then pawning them without the owners’ consent. As a result, all victims suffered financial losses due to her actions. Consequently, the suspect has been charged under Articles 372 and/or 378 of the Indonesian Penal Code for embezzlement and/or fraud, facing a maximum prison sentence of four years.
Karangasem Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba has urged the community to exercise caution when lending vehicles or valuable items, even to those they know well. “Don’t be too quick to trust others when it comes to lending belongings. Always ensure that there is clear and written evidence of the borrowing agreement to avoid unnecessary complications,” Joseph advised.
